Dermal Fillers

dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are becoming increasingly popular as a cosmetic procedure. These non-surgical treatments can enhance facial features and contour areas of the face. They are commonly used to sharpen the jawline, contour the chin, add volume to the cheeks, and contour the lips.

There are various types of dermal fillers available, each offering unique benefits and results. These injectable treatments can provide instant results with less downtime than other invasive procedures. Dermal fillers are relatively quick and straightforward,  and are performed during an office visit. The first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Gonzalez in order for us to learn your goal and for him to make an assessment of your face and provide recommendations on areas to treat.

There are several types of dermal fillers available, each with its own unique characteristics and uses. Hyaluronic acid filler is the preferred type used in our office. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring protein in our skin and tissues which provides the skin with a plump and youthful appearance. With age our skin loses hyaluronic acid.  Another advantage of hyaluronic acid fillers are that your body will start slowly dissolving them at approximately 12 months (this may vary depending on the individual and area treated).

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers used in our office are: Juvederm, Volbella, Vollure, Voluma, Volux as well as Restylane. Each one of these is used for different areas of the face; for example, chin, jaw, cheeks, under-eyes.

The procedure for dermal fillers first includes a detailed consultation from Dr. Gonzalez and a careful assessment of your desired outcome. Once the treatment plan is discussed and agreed, the procedure is done in the office.

The skin is first cleansed and a numbing cream may be applied to minimize discomfort. The dermal filler is then injected into the targeted areas using a fine needle or cannula. The process typically takes around 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the extent of treatment. After the procedure you may experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising, which usually subsides within a few days.

It is important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by Dr. Gonzalez to ensure proper healing and minimize any potential complications.

One of the advantages of using these injections is that they provide immediate and noticeable improvements in the appearance of contours of the face. Dermal fillers work by adding volume to the treated area, smoothing out certain areas and contouring others, which may result in a more youthful and attractive appearance. The result achieved with a dermal filler can last for several months depending on the type of filler used.

This means that you can enjoy your rejuvenated appearance for an extended period of time before needing another treatment. The benefits and results of dermal fillers make them a popular choice if you’re seeking non-surgical cosmetic enhancements.

It is important to be aware of the potential risks and side effects associated with these injections. While dermal fillers are generally considered safe, there are some possible risks to consider. One common side effect is bruising at the injection site, which can last for several days. In rare cases, more serious complications can occur, such as infection, scarring, or allergic reactions.

It is also possible for the filler to migrate to other areas of the face, leading to asymmetry or lumpiness, or areas feeling indurated. There is also a rare, but serious, risk of vascular occlusion, where the filler blocks a blood vessel and can cause tissue damage. Only trained professionals should inject fillers for these reasons.

Dr. Gonzalez has thorough knowledge of facial anatomy and can identify important structures of your face, nerve positioning, and muscle function. After learning about your goals and answering your questions,  he will suggest a customized treatment that will improve your appearance while remaining natural. It is important that these treatments enhance your personal style and attractiveness and not make you look different.
